Orders placed after 12pm noon on Friday, or on the weekend, are not sent until Monday, or the first available business day. Orders made within two days of a public holiday or during busy sale periods linked to a public holiday may take up to an additional five days to be delivered.
Outside of the US you can purchase your Athena Cups at Amazon.com and have them shipped to over 100 countries. We have stock available at amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk, amazon.de, amazon.it, amazon.fr, and amazon.es. At this time we do not ship internationally on www.athenacup.com.

Use and Care
Athena Cup is a menstrual cup that is inserted much like a tampon. It sits comfortably inside your vagina. Unlike tampons, Athena Cup collects the blood rather than absorbing it. Also, a tampon can only be used once whereas the medical grade silicone Athena Cup can be used every month for many years.
When inserted correctly, Athena Cup offers unparalleled leak resistance throughout your day, night, and during most physical activities. Although you may initially feel the cup your body will adjust very quickly and the cup will become absolutely sensation free.
Basically, a menstrual cup is worn inside the vagina collecting the flow instead of absorbing it. As a reusable alternative to tampons, women around the world who are concerned about the environment are choosing Athena Cup.
Athena Cup comes in 2 sizes to fit different body types and flow levels. A menstrual cup is an environmentally friendly, safer, more comfortable, healthier, easy way to manage your period.
If you compare Athena Cup to a tampon, the menstrual cup is measured in ml and a tampon is measured in grams. 1 ml is roughly equivalent to 1 gram. A regular strength tampon holds from 6 to 9 grams and an ultra absorbent tampon can hold up to 18 grams.
Athena Cup size 1 holds 20ml and size 2 holds 25ml of fluid.
So, Athena Cups hold more than tampons, which is why the incredible leak protection and extended 12 hour wear are possible.

Athena Cup comes in two sizes:

Both sizes can be used by most women. The reason we have 2 sizes is to give you a choice for better leak protection. If you find one size doesn’t feel quite right, even inserted correctly, or if you have some leaking, try the other size.
Every vagina is uniquely individual. Many moms do still use the smaller size, but in general we find these criteria help to find the right size for the majority of Athena Cup users.

Athena Cup feels like nothing at all, when it is positioned correctly. You feel nothing, and the Athena cup makes sure you have no leaks. If you have leaks or can feel the cup after it is inserted, you may want to use a different insertion method or placement. That ensures your cup fits specifically with your body.
Just like using a tampon, it takes a bit of practice to learn how to use your Athena Cup. Soon you will be inserting and removing it quickly and effortlessly!
If you are having trouble, first off, relax your pelvic muscles. If you have trouble relaxing them, start with relaxing your throat and neck muscles (it helps!).
You can consider different folding methods, or change your position until you find it easier. The 3 folding methods are outlined here.
Try more than one folding method to see what works best for you. Most women insert and remove Athena Cup as they sit on the toilet, but some stand up with their knees bent slightly, or by raising a foot on the tub or toilet.
Squatting doesn’t help insertion but it can aid removal, because it helps your body bear down naturally which guides the cup nearer the vaginal opening.

To remove your cup, make sure you release the suction seal, then remove the cup slowly. Never pull on the stem alone to try to remove the Athena cup. Gently pull on the stem until you reach the base, then squeeze on the base so the suction releases. Finally, guide the cup out of your vagina.
If your Athena cup resists removal, don’t panic! It is not lost, and it will come out. Athena Cup creates suction to seal inside your vagina when properly positioned.
Relax your pelvic muscles as you sit on the toilet. This moves the cup lower. Sometimes a quick squat or bearing down like having a bowel movement helps the cup naturally move further down.
Size 1 of Athena Cup is ideal for teens as they begin menstruation. In fact, it helps many teens become more comfortable with their bodies as they become confident with inserting and removing the cup.
Many women who have never had penetrative sex successfully use Athena Cup. Those with exceptionally strong religious or personal views about an intact hymen may be better to not use any menstrual cup. However, in these modern times, girls break their hymens by riding bicycles, taking a yoga class, or playing many common strenuous sports.
The official line between a normal and a heavy flow is 80 ml for your entire period. Many women find their flow changes throughout their period, too. If you have heavy days and light days, you may choose to wear a different sized cup on those days. Here’s some ideas for how to choose:
Athena Cup Size 1 for light to normal flow.
- Early or late in your period, or mid month you have some spotting. A light pad would be enough to manage this, but it may be too light for a tampon to be comfortable.
- Then there is very light bleeding. You would need to change your low-absorbency tampon or sanitary pad once or twice a day, but you might choose more frequent changes.
- Light bleeding is when you need to change your low-absorbency or regular-absorbency tampon 2 or 3 times a day, but you might choose more frequent changes.
Athena Cup Size 2 for normal to heavy flow.
- Mid-period, or for moderate bleeding. You change your normal-absorbency tampon or pad every 3 or 4 hours.
- Heavier bleeding means you need to change your high-absorbency pad or tampon every 3 or 4 hours, but you might choose more frequent changes.
- Extremely heavy bleeding (gushing) is when typical traditional feminine protection doesn’t really work. You change the highest absorbency tampons or pads every hour or so.
Both a menstrual cup and a tampon are internal protection for your period. Menstrual cups collect the period blood while a tampon absorbs it. Also, a tampon is disposable, thus only used once, whereas menstrual cups are reusable and last for many years.
When measuring the capacity of a tampon and a menstrual cup, you are comparing grams to millilitres. Fortunately, the grams are roughly equivalent to a millilitre, so the measurement is not complicated too much.
Tampons range in absorbency from 6 to 18 grams. Athena Cup size 1 has a capacity of 20ml and Athena Cup size 2 has a capacity of 25ml. Either size has you covered when compared to any tampon.
